Develop a working and theoretical understanding of color with class activities from Josef Albers’ "Interaction of Color." Learn the basics of color mixing and explore effective color schemes. You'll create your own portfolio of collages, exploring color relationships, and use these studies to generate a final representational or abstract painting.

  • Classes are confirmed one week prior to the start date. In order to help us confirm classes, please register as early as possible.
  • Students must work in acrylics. Scissors/blade, glue stick and ruler required, masking tape optional.

Gasparek, Mathew

Mat Gasparek earned an MFA in Painting+Printmaking from Virginia Commonwealth University and a BFA in Painting and Drawing from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, with minor degrees in Philosophy and Art History/Criticism. Mat has exhibited in a number of group shows including, Zone of Totality at Fernwey in Chicago IL, and Whateverbeing at Present Company in Brooklyn NY, with a recent solo exhibition Not There at Page Bond Gallery. He has been an artist-in-residence at Vermont Studio Center and Azule in Hot Springs, NC. He was adjunct faculty in Art Foundations at Virginia Commonwealth University and the Department of Art & Design at Virginia State University. Mat is the founder and co-director of the online artist run co-op Flat Rate Contemporary.
