Learn how to sculpt a figure bust in clay with slab construction. We’ll work together to simplify the construction process while studying facial proportions. Students can choose to explore wall-mounted or free-standing sculpture. Expect a tour of the glaze studio, but keep in mind that student work will only be bisque fired once class is completed.

  • This class will meet from 10 AM - 4 PM, on Saturday and Sunday, then the following Saturday from 1 - 4 PM. Class is spread over two weekends so students can utilize open studio during the week.
  • Classes are confirmed one week prior to the start date. In order to help us confirm classes, please register as early as possible.
  • Students are encouraged to bring their own sculpting tools, or the can use tools provided in the clay studios. All materials and equipment provided. You will receive 25 pounds of clay; additional clay is available for purchase.
Burke, Adam

Adam Burke is an illustrator from Philadelphia. He graduated from the Tyler School of Art and is now the education coordinator at VisArts. “Moving to Richmond has been one of the best decisions of my life,” says Burke. “VisArts offers a little bit of something for everyone with a creative spark!” Adam has taken digital, glass and ceramics courses with VisArts, and aims to take at least one class in every department. “Our instructors really understand what it takes to get our community engaged. VisArts is a huge part of what makes this city unique and amazing.”
