In this program we will explore the writings and life of John Lewis, including his autobiographical graphic novels. We will unpack his approach to battling systemic racism and make connections to the current moment and through in class writing assignments and journaling try to come to terms with our own experiences with race in America.

  • There will be opportunities to write poems/creative non-fiction, but neither is the focus of the course.
  • This class is offered at a special pay-what-you-can rate. We would appreciate a suggested donation on a sliding scale starting at $10 up to $135.
Castellano, Rosa

Rosa Castellano recently re-located back to Richmond, VA from Vermont. While living in the Green Mountain state, she lead numerous poetry workshops for adults and children and was an active member of the writing community. She spends the bulk of her non-writing time reading (mostly poetry, nonfiction and graphic novels) and adventuring with her husband and four children. She received an MFA in poetry from Virginia Commonwealth University and currently, is the Emerging Artist Resident in Writing for the 2019-2020 year at the Visual Arts Center of Virginia.
