Learn a variety of hand embroidery stitches to create a small design, then transform it into a piece of unique, wearable art.

  • If you choose to make an iron-on patch, you will need an iron and an ironing board. You may also be able to use a hair straightener/flat iron. Warning: these are HOT TOOLS and you may need an adult to help you use them! Embroidery needles can be sharp or blunt. Both are useful, but you will need to handle sharp needles carefully. Parents or guardians need to be aware of the inherent danger and take this into account during registration.

Rae Whitlock is a multimedia artist and educator living and working in Richmond, Virginia. She has an MFA in Performance Art from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where she also taught Art History and Writing. She has had the pleasure of teaching all age groups through VisArts since 2019 and aims to make art fun and accessible for everyone.
