Learn the characteristics of color for mixing and identification through practice with hues, value and intensity. We'll mix and layer varied amounts of individual color together on paper. The mixing process will occur by blending colors with techniques through methods of gradation (with or without a colorless blending tool and various solvents), instruments for burnishing and various clusters of mark making with pencils. Students will learn about composition of color through examples of artists who use harmony in their work. You'll complete at least one drawing using a subject of your choice with various techniques from class.

  • Please purchase a good color pencil hand sharpener. Dale recommends buying a prismacolor sharpener. Specific assignments would be important to work on outside of class and may benefit each future class meeting.
  • Classes are confirmed one week prior to the start date. In order to help us confirm classes, please register as early as possible.
  • This class is held online through Zoom; learn more about how online classes work here
