Get acquainted with metal and learn basic metalworking techniques. Students will create individual projects using traditional jewelry tools. You’ll learn how to cut shapes using a jeweler’s saw and heat your metal to soften and reshape your work. We’ll also drill into metal, then use bolts, screws and rivets to connect it in new ways.

  • Students should expect a working environment. Please wear closed toed shoes and expect to tie back any long hair. Please wear clothes you be comfortable in while working.
  • Classes are confirmed one week prior to the start date. In order to help us confirm classes, please register as early as possible.  
  • This is an On-site course. Students must follow social distancing protocols and wear masks at all times. For more info visit visarts.org.
Metzfield, Jeannine

Jeannine’s journey forged a path into metalsmithing in 2002. She has studied Metals at Virginia Commonwealth University, The Visual Arts Center, Arrowmont and Penland School of Crafts. She currently teaches metalsmithing at The Visual Arts Center, as well as to private clients. In her studio she is inspired by the beauty and strength of nature. In her classes she promotes caring for the earth and connection to spirit.
