Come and make art side by side as a family. Each week, families will explore a new medium and create a beautiful project together. Read, Art, and Play: These very clever interactive books were written to captivate children of all ages. Interactive books allow the audience to be involved and engaged. After the reading of each book participants will be invited to play with mixed media art materials to create artwork inspired by the book. Let’s read, play and make some art together! This week we will read Tap the Magic Tree by Christie Matheson.

  • Only one sign up is required per family. Families can include up to 4 people. This program is best suited for families with children aged 3 to 8, however, all family members are welcome. All materials and equipment provided. Artmaking activities will involve some messiness; please wear appropriate clothing.
  • Due to a set of stairs, this classroom is not wheelchair accessible.
  • Families need to sign up before 4pm the Friday afternoon before. Confirmations/cancellations will be made by 5pm on Friday, the day before. Please sign up as early as possible.
  • This is an On-site course. Students must follow social distancing protocols and wear masks at all times. For more info visit visarts.org.
Evans, Tarneshia

Tarneshia has been working in the field of education for over 20 years. She previously worked for Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden in Children’s Education, Richmond Public School Head Start programs, The Goddard School, YMCA of Greater Richmond, and Atlantic Coastal Athletic Club (ACAC) Youth Department. Tarneshia affiliates herself with several worthwhile organizations like National Association for the Education of Young Children (naeyc & vaaeyc), Virginia Environmental Education Association (vaee) and the local chapter Greater Richmond Environmental Education Network (GREEN). In 2016 she was selected as Virginia Outstanding Educator by Project Learning Tree (PLT) and the following year was chosen as one the five 2017 National Outstanding Educators by PLT. She’s a strong advocate for promoting high-quality early childhood environmental education to children, families, and educators. Tarneshia enjoys seeing children engaged and immersed in nature. When she’s not teaching you can find her at some of her favorite consignment shops, visiting museums or volunteering at community events. Not only is she an award-winning educator, but her joy of teaching is obvious, and her joy is contagious!
