In this quick crash course, get a basic introduction to clay and explore creating functional pottery. We'll focusing on handbuilding techniques and discuss using various tools and studio methods. On the third class, you will get to glaze your finished pieces. This is a great class for beginner who want a taste of what clay has to offer!

  • You will receive a half bag of clay; additional clay is available for purchase.

    This is an ONSITE course. All onsite students are required to be vaccinated against COVID-19. Students are expected to adhere to our COVID-19 policies. Onsite courses do not come with studio access outside of class time. Paid open studio access is available through our Studio Access Program. For more info please visit visarts.org.

Shelton-Eide, Cindy

Cindy Shelton-Eide is an artist and art educator living in Richmond, Virginia. As a native of RVA, Cindy grew up exploring the backyard creeks that feed into the James River, instilling a love of nature that would later inform all of her artwork. She graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University with a degree in Painting and Printmaking, and later with a Master of Art Education. After practicing under the great tutelage of ceramic artists at the Visual Arts Center of Richmond, she finally realized that clay was her passion. She now teaches ceramics full-time at Goochland High School and part-time at the Visual Art Center of Richmond.
