Get a crash course in the fun and exciting world of fashion design. Learn how to design a capsule collection of garments from start to finish. You may bring your own inspiration for a collection and will learn how to make a mood board and a fabric board. Expect to learn the basics of figure drawing for fashion design, rendering fabrics and garments on the body, and creating a cohesive collection of looks. At the end of the class, you will have your own fully finished presentation of a mood board, a fabric board, and a fully rendered collection of 10 fashion looks with design details. 

  • Students will have homework outside of class.

    This is an ONSITE course. All onsite students are required to be vaccinated against COVID-19. Students are expected to adhere to our COVID-19 policies. Onsite courses do not come with studio access outside of class time. Paid open studio access is available through our Studio Access Program. For more info please visit visarts.org.

Campbell, Amanda

Amanda Campbell’s passion for sewing and fashion design started when her grandmother taught her at a young age. She quickly fell in love and took classes throughout middle and high school before attending Virginia Commonwealth University, where she graduated with a B.F.A. in fashion design and a minor in media studies in 2015. She started her own brand, ABLE By Amanda Campbell in 2013; showing and selling collections of women’s ready-to-wear and evening looks and creating custom designs for clients.
In 2020, Campbell began working at Sassy Jones, a women’s contemporary lifestyle brand. She is currently the lead designer there where she heads the creation of the brand’s clothing, jewelry, handbag, and accessories lines. She has been teaching at VisArts since 2021 and is eager to share her experience and knowledge of sewing and design with others.
