Explore the many ways glass powders can be used to create differently from sheet glass. Through the use of various techniques, students will work on botanical designs, making flower petals and leaves to be used in layers. The techniques of wafer making, crackle, drawing and painting processes, stencils, and ways to create depth and texture will be covered.

  • Open only to those with previous glass experience. Glass powder is included in the materials fee, but glass sheets will be purchased separately by the student.

    This is an ONSITE course. All onsite students are required to be vaccinated against COVID-19. Students are expected to adhere to our COVID-19 policies. Onsite courses do not come with studio access outside of class time. Paid open studio access is available through our Studio Access Program. For more info please visit visarts.org.

Schlotzhauer, Jude

Jude Schlotzhauer is a full time studio glass artist with a BFA in painting and an MFA in glass working. In addition to teaching glass kiln working at VCU for over 25 years, she has taught as a visiting artist at many universities and art centers throughout the country and in Mexico and Malaysia. Her work is in many private and corporate collections, including Capitol One, Verizon and Chesapeake Capitol Corp. Her public art commissions are installed locally at MCV, Randolph Community Center, Fire Station 16, Childrens’ Museum, and VCU dining center, and as far away as a Marine Officers complex in Japan. www.judeglass.com
