Explore, practice and hone skills in creating watercolor works inspired by the natural world. We will research and learn from artists who celebrate nature within their work. Plan to learn both traditional observational watercolor painting techniqes and explore experimental painting methods. Throughout the class you'll develop a collection of works inspired by nature.

  • Students will need to actively participate in live painting and critique, discussion and curation of natural images and places. Access to: computer, internet and some digital camera to upload images. Ability to upload images needed. Homework will include taking reference photos, and gathering natural objects or images of nature in urban/suburban/store/green spaces/nature. (Does not matter where you live).

    Classes are confirmed one week prior to the start date. In order to help us confirm classes, please register as early as possible.

Blum, Caryn

Caryn Blum is an Artist Educator that earned her B.F.A in Fine Arts Painting from The Rhode Island School of Design, and her MA.ED from Seton Hall University. She earned the Florence Lief award for Painting as an alumnus of RISD Painting. She has worked as a Visual Artist and Illustrator since 2000 and became a published children’s book author in 2020. Caryn has taught Visual Art with every age level from 3-year-olds to adults and has worked as a certified K-12 Art teacher in many places throughout New Jersey, Philadelphia, and Wisconsin. You can find her books for sale on Amazon, and in a children’s bookstore called Novel-Bay Booksellers. Caryn’s work has been exhibited throughout the country, in museums and galleries such as the Milwaukee Art Museum, the Corcoran Museum of Art, MOCA of Los Angeles, Blue Mountain Gallery of Chelsea NYC, Baton Rouge Center for Contemporary Art, Kohler Art Center, Princeton Day School, Fox Gallery at the University of Pennsylvania, Woods Gerry Gallery of RISD, and in Pont-Aven School of Art in Pont-Aven France. She has continued to strive to make connections to places that respect the Fine Art of Illustrators, the creativity of all age levels, and the work of artists who love teaching.
