This class is an introduction to the basics of the Chinese Gongbi painting technique and the eastern aesthetic and applies them to figure painting. Students will make gesture drawings and a stylized figure painting during one life session.

  • Basic drawing skills, or portrait or figure drawing experience is helpful, but not required.

    This instructor also speaks Mandarin Chinese.

    This is an ONSITE course. All onsite students are required to be vaccinated against COVID-19. Students must follow social distancing protocols and wear masks at all times. Onsite courses do not come with studio access outside of class time. Paid open studio access is available through our Studio Access Program. For more info please visit visarts.org.

Zheng, Dalton

Dalton concentrates on figurative art influenced by traditional Chinese aesthetics. As an artist who was born in China, Dalton’s minimalistic style is heavily influenced by his cultural background and contemporary life. Dalton is dedicated to informing a Chinese aesthetic with Western literary themes. His artworks evoke a quiet atmosphere with the clean line and subtle rendering, especially in his portraiture work.
