You've seen RVA change before your eyes but have never been able to capture what you see? You want people to know how beautiful Richmond really is. Learn the ways of an urban sketcher, to record what you see around you. First, we'll focus on drawing, then expand our techniques to include watercolor.

  • Drawing and watercolor experience are strongly preferred. The first 2 classes will be held at VisArts then we will be drawing in other locations after that, weather allowing. Drawing skills and some knowledge of watercolor very helpful. As we will be drawing around town, you will need transportation to get to various places, and will need good mobility to access the terrain.

    Due to a set of stairs, this classroom is not wheelchair accessible.

    Instructor speaks German.

    This is an ONSITE course. All onsite students are required to be vaccinated against COVID-19. Students must follow social distancing protocols and wear masks at all times. Onsite courses do not come with studio access outside of class time. Paid open studio access is available through our Studio Access Program. For more info please visit visarts.org.

Singer, Susan

Susan Singer is a prolific full-time artist who has produced dozens of one-person art shows on topics related to the human body (Pregnant Nudes, 12 Naked Men, Scar Series, and Beyond Barbie, to name a few); landscapes (she fell in love with Iceland and paints it frequently as well as the James River); patterned mandalas; and art books. Susan’s interests are quite diverse, but all her work has at its core the desire to empower others and to help them follow their own passion in order to live the most amazing life possible. Susan teaches many different classes at the Visual Arts Center including Introduction to Pastels, Zentangles, Visual Journaling, Follow Your Bliss, Beginning Drawing Intensive, among others. https://www.facebook.com/SusanSingerArt/
