Learn the joy of digital photography! Students will learn the history of photography, how to take a polished image, and how to thoughtfully critique an image. Students will learn the basics of photography (rule of thirds, composition, lighting, etc.) and how to optimize the camera they are using, whether it's an iPhone, a basic point and shoot or a DSLR. They will also learn the basics of Adobe Lightroom and post-production techniques. They will walk away with an in-depth understanding of how photography can be used to sway perspective or tell a story. Students must also have permission to go on walking field trips around the neighborhood.

  • You may add extended day to this class for a $55 fee and pick your child up before 5:30pm. This is an ONSITE course. Students are expected to adhere to our COVID-19 policies. For more info please visit visarts.org.

Slaughter, Preston

Preston is a mindfulness educator and a professional photographer, as well as an outdoor enthusiast, a yogi, a backpacker, a paddler, a biker and a visual artist, among many other things. She discovered her passions for yoga, photography and the natural world while teaching English in Thailand for two years after college. She moved to Denver in 2017 where she began to teach yoga, build a photography business from the ground up, and host wilderness retreats several times a year. She currently teaches mindfulness, art and outdoor education to youth all over Richmond. She is passionate about pathways to health and healing through nature therapy, creative expression and movement, and the powerful foundations these practices hold for human joy.
