In this 6 week course, students will learn a variety of basic stone setting techniques including bezel setting, tab setting, prong setting, flush setting, and bead setting. Each week we will introduce a new setting skill. Over the 6 weeks students will be asked to design jewelry that houses any of the stone setting techniques that they wish. We will work in sterling silver so that the items students create can be worn daily if they would like. We will explore the more common formats of jewelry such as rings, earrings and pendants.

  • The skills necessary to complete the class include basic skills such as soldering, sawing, light forging etc. Will be setting semi-precious stones, as well as alternative materials. In this class, we will create one wearable item. This class is open to all students of varying degrees of skill. You will need always wear closed-toe shoes, bring something to tie back your hair, safety glasses (there are some in the studio), and a small tool box or tote for storing your materials and work.
