Drawing Outside in Richmond (this class is only offered a few times a year)
Adult Multi-Week | Available
Bring along your oil pastels or oil paint sticks for this plein air class that meets in different locations around our fabulous River City. We’ll visit some of Richmond’s favorite sites—such as Pony Pasture and Maymont—and discover some new ones too! This course will meet off-site and instruction will happen in the great outdoors. We’ll cover landscape drawing and the use of color to create light, depth and value. Experienced students may use other media: soft pastel, oils, watercolor, etc.
- This class does not meet on 4/9.
Previous drawing experience is required. Students will meet off site at designated locations (list will be provided before beginning of class) and are responsible for their own transportation. Students are welcome to work with their choice of medium. A supply list is available for those wishing to work with oil pastel or oil stick.
Accessibility notes: Many artmaking processes require the ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time, fine motor skills/finger dexterity, repetitive motions, vision, and some amount of physical strength. Hand building generally requires some upper body and hand strength and the ability to lift 5-10 lbs at a time. Specific techniques like coil building tend to require more hand strength and joint mobility. When you take this class and as we do certain activities, we will talk about how to care for our joints and hand while develop practices that reduce fatigue and physical barriers. VisArts values making classes accessible to everyone, and is always happy to work with students to make accommodations when possible. Please reach out to info@visarts.org with specific questions related to accessibility or accommodations.
Classes are confirmed one week prior to the start date. In order to help us confirm classes, please register as early as possible.
