Oil and Acrylic Class with Linda Ramsay Get Your Brushes and Palette Knives Ready!

Workshop | Available

Enjoy this exciting class with one of LBI’s most recognized artist! All skill levels will learn various acrylic and/or oil painting techniques. Linda will guide you through painting ocean and other beach subjects with emphasis on using palette knives. Feel free to follow along or bring your own photo references. Class participants will complete one or two landscape paintings in oils or acrylics using palette knife techniques. Specifically we will learn techniques on how a seascape

photograph of jetty rocks and ocean can be broken down into shapes and
angles just using different knives and other tools. A demo will be done at start of class.
This will be a fun class to paint with tools rather than brushes, although some
brushwork will be included.

  • Oil or Acrylic paint (bring earth tones, any browns, burnt sienna, grays, yellow ochre, any blues
    you have, Titanium white)
    1- Long Rectangle Canvas 12 x 24 or 12 x 36 proportion
    1-Square Canvas 12 x 12 or larger (Note: toning of canvas will be done in class with acrylic paint
    provided by instructor)
    Brushes #10 or #12 flats if you have, if not Linda will bring some to use.
    Palette knives you have (I will have many available to borrow so don’t buy)
    Important...
    If using acrylics you will need a medium added that keeps your paints wet and workable.
    (Liquitex or Golden Acrylic Matte Medium)
    If using oils, you will need Turpenoid or Gamsol.

Artist Statement

My work is inspired by nature as well as objects I find interesting to paint both from photographs and plein air.  I am drawn to painting seascapes, local landmarks or icons of a community along with vintage bicycles and underwater swimmers; which has become a recurring theme. Capturing the light, gradation of colors, shadows and reflections on water, land and objects influence my paintings. I seek to infuse my work with visual energy to elicit a mood or memory for the viewer.


Biography

Linda (Cline) Ramsay was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She attended Philadelphia College of Art and received a BA from Rutgers University. She studied abroad in France and Italy her junior year. She is a member of the Pine Shores Art Association, LBIF and was on the Board of Trustees of the LBI Arts Council.  She has served as chairperson and webpage coordinator for the LBI Artist Open Studio Tour for the past fifteen years.  She maintains an artist-in-residence at LBI Foundation of the Arts & Sciences, Loveladies, NJ. 

Her work hangs in private and public collections throughout the United States, British Columbia, Grand Cayman and England. 

She is represented by the following jersey shore galleries: Solace Studio & Gallery, Wildflowers Too Gallery, Main Street Gallery, ChoraLeon Gallery and Refind Gallery.
