Nancy Sterr Lang
Nancy Sterr honed her watercolor skills as a member of Pine Shores Art Association in Manahawkin NJ. She has won numerous awards there including 1st place for ‘Peregrine Falcon’ and 2nd place for ‘Lizzie Rose’. Her painting ‘Midway’ won Best in Show at the New Jersey Watercolor Society’s annual exhibit and was awarded Elected Membership. Further, she was thrilled when ‘Brothers’ was accepted into the Philadelphia Watercolor Society’s annual exhibition; and was honored to be one of four artists requested to paint a mural for the mayor’s office in Stafford Township NJ. In addition, several of her paintings can be seen in the book ‘A Guide to the Jersey Shore’.
Although watercolor medium is what she finds most challenging, Nancy is established in other mediums such as colored pencil, graphite, charcoal, and acrylic. She often teaches a class in Acrylic Pouring at PSAA.
Nancy’s inspiration is drawn from photos of her granddaughters and local landscapes. Often, she will stop along the roadside to take photos if something catches her eye. She looks for a subject that has an interest to her or to the community. One of her favorites is the fifty-seven Chevy titled ‘Fifty-Seven Shades of Chrome’, which she saw on a friend’s Facebook page.
Nancy’s interest in art has led her to become the curator of the Tuckerton Borough Fine Arts Gallery. The exhibit embellishes the main hallway, conference room, and courtroom of the new Tuckerton Municipal Building with works of art from local artists. A new show is installed quarterly and is open to the public.
