Painting Sea Glass in Colored Pencil

Class | Available

We have all experienced the thrill of finding a luminous shard of glass, its edges and surface worn and softened by the sea and sand.

In this class you will learn new tips and techniques to help you capture the unique visual characteristics and beauty of sea glass.

You will be drawing on a multi media black surface called Mi-Teintes Velvet paper.

This surface allows you to take colored pencil to another level by using water and a brush for an additional blending technique.

Students will take home a finished 6 1/2 in x 8 in drawing.

  • All supplies included -- Prismacolor pencils, paper and essential tools for this class using colored pencil will be provided for use during the class.

ART STATEMENT
Subject matter, color, light, and composition all play a role in my creative process. Light reflected and transmitted through objects and still life contrasted by a dark background are my favorite things to capture. I was attracted to colored pencil because of its versatility and ability to be a precise drawing tool as well as producing very painterly results.

ARTIST BIO
I received an Associate of Arts degree from Centenary University in Hackettstown, NJ where I completed coursework in drawing and art history. I developed my skills over the years by taking courses and workshops with professional artists in colored pencil, watercolor, pastel and acrylics.

Since our family spent five years in the active US Navy, we moved a lot. One of the first things I did when we arrived in a new area was to seek out an art course I could take to satisfy my fascination with art and to explore different mediums. When we settled in Northern Virginia I discovered fine art of colored pencils and they became my medium of choice. While living in Virginia, I was an exhibiting member of the Artist’s Undertaking Gallery and Spirited Collections Gallery in Occoquan, VA. Early on, I became a member of the Metro Washington District Chapter 109 of the Colored Pencil Society of America and I am still an active member to this day.

The CPSA is a nonprofit organization for colored pencil enthusiasts promoting colored pencils as a fine art medium and also sponsors exhibitions and workshops. I am now a Signature Member. My work has been accepted into six international colored pencil exhibitions. My drawing “Floats and Reflections” was accepted into this years show which took place June 14 through August 2, 2025 at the Strathmore Mansion in Bethesda, MD. My drawing “Bakelite Bangles” was awarded the Legion Paper Award for Exceptional Merit at the Chicago, IL exhibition a few years ago. I am also a member locally of Pine Shores Art Association where I exhibit, and have been conducting workshops in colored pencil technique for several years.
