Collage an Autumn Forest Scene

In this one-day workshop, students will create a dimensional, slightly abstract forest scene with layered shapes and rich autumn colors using upcycled watercolor (or other water-media) paintings and watercolor paper scraps.
Student will learn core collage basics, focusing on torn-paper techniques and creative ways to reuse “oops” paintings.
The class is beginner-friendly, with optional challenges for returning students who want to build on their skills.
Every piece will be unique and will highlight an environmentally mindful approach to materials.
- Class is being held in our Manahawkin (Stafford) location.
- Supply List for Workshop
• 11x14 or larger old painting to use as a base• A few sheets and Scraps of watercolor paper, used and unused 8x10 or smaller (studio or pro quality)
• Old watercolor paintings, or water media such as printmaking or gel printing pages to cut and tear up
• Watercolor or Goauche paint
• Markers
• Colored pencil
• Brushes for painting and gluing
• AIeene’s Tacky Glue or similar
• Masking Tape
• Scissors
• Xacto Knife

Clara Sue Beym
Clara Sue Beym is a resident of Bayville NJ. She has been painting in watercolor for most of her life. Her education was in Graphic Design, Fine Art, Architectural Illustration and Fabric Arts. An award-winning graphic designer for over 25 years she has used both her graphic design and her fine art skills in her career in marketing of publications and international ad campaigns. Clara has helped teach art to seniors, young students and will soon be working with Easter Seals organization leading art-making with disabled adults.
Recently retired, Clara is an active member of several art organizations: OCAG, Garden State Watercolor Society (Board Member), Pine Shores Art Association and Toms River Arts Association. Clara is part of the Print Making group on Tuesdays at the Guild, has shown her art regularly at the Guild and other venues in Ocean County and Mercer County. Clara regularly donates her paintings to fund raisers. She paints commissioned house portraits and pet portraits, and has sold paintings to collectors throughout the states. Clara had a solo exhibit at the Berkeley Branch library in 2022, which showcased her local paintings including her watercolor collages. Clara won first place for her watercolor in the 2022 Senior Art Exhibit for Ocean County and honorable mention for NJ.
