Mixed Media Floral Abstracts with Nancy Barch I, A
Flowers have an international appeal, like music. Everyone can relate to a floral, plant life or nature in general. Pack up your Gel Medium and come along on an artistic journey through a garden.

We will explore all the possibilities of natures’ subject matter. Leaves, trees, flowers, bouquets, even weeds are going to get the creative treatment.

Be prepared to experiment and play!

  • Workshop - Nancy Barch
  • Materials List
  • At least two sheets of heavy watercolor paper, or illustration board to work on or a few paintings that have not met your expectations. You may also use canvas or canvas board if you prefer.
  • Bring acrylics, both the inexpensive type (.59 cents, AC Moore) and tube acrylics. You may want to bring a tube of acrylic to print with. I’ll provide the plexi glas, Deli paper and rollers for printmaking.
  • Wax paper, aluminum foil, paper towels
  • Two or three colors of acrylics that you like. Acrylic inks will do fine also.
  • Collage elements: papers, fabric, found items, tissue papers, string or thread
  • Rug grip, perforated dry wall tape (it is all holes)
  • Stamps, either ones you created or commercial stamps
  • Potters have wonderful stamps available online if you’re interested
  • Sponges for cleanup
  • *GEL MEDIUM (I prefer matte finish but gloss will work as well)
  • You may also want to cut 1 1/2 “ strips of foam core to use as applicators or old brushes.
  • Please bring an old shower curtain or plastic to cover your worktable.
  • Rubber gloves are useful to have as well
  • I use drywall applicators purchased at Lowes or Home Depot to paint with instead of brushes. They’re about $4.00 a package of three.
  • Don’t forget to bring along your imagination!
  • *Gel Medium is absolutely necessary to bring with you

Nancy Barch

I try to allow the viewer to relate to my art on intimate terms if they like, or just enjoy the view from afar, as would a visitor. Creating my art is an ongoing compulsion, a need for self expression. My technique of mixed media allows me to add or subtract elements on a continual basis throughout the creative process. I employ digital technology by the use of my photos and incorporating them into my paintings. It allows me to connect with reality in a fleeting manner since I really like abstraction. Abstraction is not only non representational, it is a distortion of the known, technology allows me to biur that line. Nancy Barch has evolved from illustration, to watercolor and finally in this last decade, mixed media. Nancy has garnered a number of coveted awards for work in a variety of media but has decidedly focused on of mix of acrylics, collage and image transfers. She's been featured in 100 Artists of The Mid Atlantic, a book published by Amazon.com. Her work is in corporate collections such as Morgan Stanley, Liberty Properties, AIG, etc. More work can be seen at www.nancybarch.com
