Learn a variety of techniques for creating luminous color! Students will create a series of color palettes and paintings throughout the session for a better understanding of color organization. We'll review hue, value and chroma systems with emphasis on mixing pigments. Students will learn to use paint characteristics to maximize color in a painting, including opacity and transparency, as well as warm and cool colors. Discussions will include landscapes, still life and portraits, and students will create a color study for each theme. We'll also review aerial and chromatic perspectives. Students will create an atmospheric painting suggesting depth, time of day and weather. We'll review light and composition for each study. Photo references will be provided by the instructor and students are welcome to work from personal photos. Watercolor, acrylic, and oil painters welcome!

  • Students must purchase a copy of The New Munsell Student Color Set before the first class!
  • Classes are confirmed one week prior to the start date. In order to help us confirm classes, please register as early as possible.
